vinyl siding removal

Want to replace your siding and wonder how to remove vinyl siding?
Although the whole process seems very complicated, following these steps, removing vinyl siding will not be a problem for you!

All it takes is a few minutes and a few simple tools to get access for repairs or modifications to a wall covered with this popular cladding.

Before you remove the Vinyl Siding

Designate a large area to pile the pieces of vinyl siding

Find a large space where you can leave the removed pieces of the siding.

This is especially important if your siding is in good condition and you do not want to damage it during removal.

If you do not have enough space to fit all the pieces or if you stack them on top of each other, it can damage, scratch, or completely destroy the siding!

Set up a ladder

Be careful when setting up the ladder.

When working on a ladder, it’s a good idea to have someone to help you. This is especially important when removing higher parts of the siding.

Step By Step Guide

Look for a horizontal seam between two courses of vinyl siding

This is the easiest way you can start removing the siding.

Use a zip tool to disconnect two pieces of siding

This tool is used to remove higher pieces from the lower ones.

First, reveal the nails that connect the pieces.

To remove a piece at your eye level, slide the zip tool under the piece above that one. However, if you don’t have a zip tool, buy one at a hardware store. It should cost around $5 and is perfect for removing the siding.

The top piece will have a piece of channel, rather than another piece of siding, covering its nails. So, you may have to remove this top piece of channel to remove the top piece of siding.

Slide the tool sideways and push upward

Slide the tool a few inches from where you inserted it and press up.

Then, repeat the process by going back and forth until the pieces are completely separated.
Once the higher piece is detached from the lower part, you will see the nails that fasten them.

Remove the nail clippers using a hammer. I recommend that you work carefully, as you may miss a nail. If you miss a nail, the siding piece will not come off of the house.

Push the siding downward to remove it from the piece below it

The second step after removing the nails from the top is to remove them on the bottom piece as well.

Place the palms of your hands on the siding and apply downward pressure until the piece pops free.
